Scan my privacy

Checks your connection, WebRTC, DNS, browser fingerprint and tracking signals in parallel. About ten seconds.

What we test, what we do not, and what we store

Full method →

We test

  • What your connection reveals: IP, approximate location, provider and visible device details
  • Whether your browser reveals an extra address through WebRTC
  • Which DNS servers answer your lookups
  • How identifying your browser fingerprint is (an estimate)
  • Whether Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track are on

We do not test

  • Malware, passwords, accounts or anything inside your device
  • Cookies, logins or what individual websites do with your data
  • Whether you are anonymous: a high score means little exposure was observed by these tests, nothing more

What we store

  • Nothing: results are computed in your browser and are not uploaded or saved
  • The DNS part keeps resolver addresses for ten minutes against a random code, not your IP
  • Anonymous usage counts only: which tool was completed and a coarse result category, never what you typed, your IP address or your results. Nothing is sent if your browser signals Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track.

Third parties that see data: ipify (your browser) sees your IP; geolocation providers receive it to return location data; a STUN server (Google by default) sees your address during the WebRTC part; our own DNS test server sees your resolver's address.

What the full privacy scan checks

Most privacy tests look at one thing: your IP address, or DNS, or WebRTC. In practice they interact. A VPN that hides your IP is undone by a leaking DNS server or a WebRTC candidate, and none of it helps if your browser is unique enough to be recognised anyway. This scan runs all of the checks together and gives you one score and a short list of what to fix first.

How the score is calculated

The score is a transparent heuristic with five categories. Each is worth a fixed number of points, and a check that cannot run on your device is left out and the total rescaled to 100.

CategoryPointsWhat earns points
Network exposure38Your IP, location and provider are masked, for example by a VPN.
WebRTC leaks15The browser does not reveal an address other than the one sites see.
DNS privacy15Lookups are not leaking out of your VPN (partial credit for a private DNS provider).
Browser fingerprint20Your browser carries few identifying details.
Tracking signals12Global Privacy Control (8) and Do Not Track (4) are enabled.

Scores of 80 and above are "well protected", 50 to 79 "partially protected" and below 50 "exposed". A typical home connection in a standard browser scores in the 30s to 40s, which is not a failing: it just means a lot is visible by default.

What this score is and is not

It measures how much a website can learn from your connection and browser. It is not a malware scan, a password audit or a guarantee of safety. It cannot see inside your device, and it cannot tell what a specific website does with what it learns. IP location is approximate, and our fingerprint estimate is an illustrative figure, not a measurement against a live population. We prefer to say that plainly than to give you a falsely precise number.

Getting a better score

  1. Mask your IP. Use a trustworthy VPN. Our guide to hiding your IP compares the options.
  2. Close leaks. Enable DNS and IPv6 leak protection in the VPN app and restrict WebRTC.
  3. Choose a privacy-focused browser or enable its fingerprint protection.
  4. Turn on Global Privacy Control.
  5. Re-run the scan to see the improvement, then share your score with the image button.

The shareable image shows your score and category bars only. It never includes your IP address.

Frequently asked questions

Is this privacy scan really free?

Yes. There is no signup and no limit that a normal visitor will hit. We earn money from clearly labelled affiliate links to VPN providers, which does not change the results.

Why did the DNS test not run?

The DNS leak test needs our own DNS server, which is only available when the site runs on a server that can host it. If it is unavailable, the score is rescaled using the other checks.

Why is my score low even though I use a VPN?

Usually a leak (DNS or WebRTC) or a highly unique browser fingerprint. The fix list shows which one. Fingerprinting is the hardest to remove because a VPN does not touch it.

Do you save my results?

No. The scan runs in your browser and our server only answers each request. Your score and fingerprint are not stored.
